Coaching Sessions

What is Coaching?

The purpose of coaching is to move you toward a goal and give you an action plan of how to accomplish that goal.

Working with a coach involves creating a partnership that moves you from feeling "stuck" and guides you through thought processes to propel yourself forward. A coaching session will involve working toward your goal, a plan on how to get there, and accountability on the other end. Coaching sessions can be done through a video meeting (Zoom) or over a phone conversation.

Is Coaching Right for You?

Are you having a hard time finding motivation? Are you unable to balance your ministry with other aspects of your life? Are you doubting your leadership skills? Coaching could help you in these situations. My coaching will focus on clients who:

  • work in unconventional ministry settings (campus ministry, new church development, non-profit management, regional/denominational leadership, validated ministry, etc.),

  • need help managing their anxiety around tasks and creating a plan to move forward,

  • have experienced a transition in their calling (leaving a call, entering a new call, leaving ministry all-together, moving forward after an unhealthy ministry setting, etc.),

  • face gender, age, or other discriminations in ministry settings,

  • are going through a discernment or ordination process (seminary students, clients wanting to work on their pastoral identity, clients seeking coaching through call searches, etc.).

However, coaching can be used in several additional settings such as creating career goals, preparing for a meeting you have to lead, creating a plan on how to approach a difficult conversation with someone, or making overwhelming tasks seem manageable.

What Will a Coaching Session

Involve?

I'll send you a Zoom link to a video conference or phone call before the session begins. First we'll spend some time working on what exactly you want out of the time we have together. Then we'll work toward some action steps to get you to achieving your goal. At the end there will be an offer of accountability - do you want me to email you and see how the meeting went? Do you want me to send you a text to make sure you took some time for yourself? We might not be able to problem solve in one session, but the session will provide you with ways to take a few steps forward.

The Coaching Relationship

“I have full trust that YOU are the expert in your context and have everything you need in order to succeed. I won't waste your time asking unnecessary details or giving you unhelpful advice. I will guide and walk beside you to help you figure out what's best for your context and your style. Confidence is essential to our relationship. I don't share anything you tell me. The fact that you are my client is also held in confidence.”
